Mort–fresh off getting a bottle of scotch and a ticket to anywhere in the world from his parents–has his top ten/top five lists for the year over on vdov.net. CHECK OUT THE NUMBER FIVE SINGLE–and ask yourselves… Where is the inspiration from?? Mort?!!–I want credit.
Zelda: Live Blogging
O.K., it’s 11:08 am, and Josh and I are ready to start. The N64 works, we have starbucks, and we have fire.
UPDATES:
12:57 PM: Dodongo’s Cavern. Got a bit stuck finding the chickens (just to get a bottle) and how to get the Goran’s Bracelet. Boy, is this going to take a while.
1:02 PM: First Death, Dodongo’s Cavern. Lazer beamer dudes.
3:09 PM: Beat Dodogongo’s, really slow uptake as we’re struggling with how to get into Zora’s Domain. Very slow pace right now. Outlook bleak.
3:32 PM: Still can’t find Zora’s Domain–but have a hunch. Picked up a sixth heart though, big wallet, big bomb bag — we know how to accessorize. Hah–found Zora’s Domain. I’m going to subway. THERE ARE SIX DUCKS OUT THERE–AND THEY ALL WANT SUNCHIPS!!
4:02 PM: BIG UPDATE: got Subway. Toasty.
5:26 PM: got the last Stone–Rescued Luru from Lord Jubu-Jubu. Giant Fish: 0wned. Now little link is growing into a man swimming with Princess Luru.
5:30 PM: Kicking the crap out of Chickens in Kakariko Village is hilarious. We’re also about to go from young weak Link to strong buff Link–Josh’s favorite. Epona our fine stead is forthcoming!
5:32 PM: It’s happening, Gannondorf has chased Zelda and her Sheikh soldierette Inga (or something) out of Hyrule Castle; oh it is so on.
5:44 PM: Temple of Time, Bitches!
5:56 PM: Now that we’re old, we think we’ve forgotten something when we were young. This is what’s slowing us down so much: simply not knowing what to do or where to go. Josh and I both have vague recollections of the game. Once we get to the pure fighting and dungeons, we’ve been doing fine and rarely dying.
6:56 PM: Made it to the Forest Temple. Josh gone. N64 brings out the bitter 13 year-olds in both of us.
7:16 PM: FINALLY, the reason to go to Kakariko Village after the adulthood: Hookshot. Had to go to the Forest Temple to find out what, and had to go to the graveyard and beat some ghost at some race to get it. Ugh! You were right, Josh.
7:54 PM: My Contiguous Quest ends here, 8 Hours and 47 Minutes after the start, frustrated and stuck in the Forest Temple. Wow–I truly suck at life.
Live Blogging Event: Zelda 64
Tomorrow Josh and I embark on an epic quest: to beat Zelda: Ocarina of Time for Nintendo 64. After an hour of playing tonight (and one level beaten), we’re going to try to finish the entire game tomorrow in twelve hours. I will be attempting my first ever ‘live blogging’ and will be doing it from my parents basement. This means I will routinely update our progress as this spirit quest endures.
For those oddly still interested, the fastest go at this game is in four hours and fifty seven minutes. The video of this ‘speed run’ is quite clever and there are links to countless other videos of Nerds beating video games in record time!
So, stop-by tomorrow when I will be live-blogging this Epic Event. I seek a new level of geek-ness that transcends mockery into sheer embarrassment.
House Episode Talks about Robocup
House-Season 1-Episode 8:
Dr. House, when talking to an 82-year old diagnosed with Cupid’s Disease, says:
It’s the twenty-first century! We’ve got flying cars, robot dogs, and… penicilin!
Happy Christmas!
Merry New Year!
The cycle fell upon the Parkton Kirckhoffs to host Christmas this year despite the haunting fog and intimidating rain.
Christmas 1, Fog/Rain 0. We spilt drinks (and food), talked about facebook, spread the whip cream perhaps too amply, and had a great time.
This year I got everything I wanted–to spend some quality time with my family. HAH–They didn’t get me an XBOX 360 and so I will dishone them. UNGRATEFUL PARENTS.
Just Kidding–Merry Christmas!
FiOS
I just found out that my house is finally available for FiOS internet. Verizon is furiously installing FiOS around the country, bringing fiber to households. You can get 15 mbits down/2 mbits up for only 45 dollars a month. This is twice as fast and just as cheap as Comcast’s current offer.
Now, only how to convince the parents that their daily email checking and occasional ebay auctions is worth the hassles of switching over.
UPA Inducts Hall of Famers
From the UPA Website:
Although the Ultimate Hall of Fame remains a “virtual” hall for the time being, the long-range goal is to establish a permanent site by 2018, the 50th anniversary of the founding of the sport. The formal induction ceremony, which is held every five years in conjunction with the Ultimate players’ alumni reunion, will next be held in 2008. In the meantime, the inductees will be honored with a plaque at the UPA headquarters building in Boulder, CO and on the UPA web site at www.upa.org.
I think this is good–frisbee has legends like any other sport but they normally remain quite local. Look for B.L.O.T.T.E.R and Smalls to be up there in 2019.
Academics
Update: I will graduate with majors in American Government–just confirmed yesterday–and, with just a little bit more effort, Computer Science.
Woot.
