First set is up; man, is it awesome. We packed a hella lot of awesomeness into one day, and boy did we have to play a lot of chess that night to make up for it. We headed south to go west through Wanaka all the way up to fox glacier where we *didn’t* stay in a hostel with a hot springs spa. If you are in fox glacier and have booked the Ivory Towers with expectation to have hot tub fun, proceed with frustration. Here’s an interesting note from the general overview of this backpackers: “Excellent place operated by people who really know how to run a hostel.” Apparently, this is only when the hot tub is in service, i mean really, who is expected to run a hostel daily without relaxing their sore feet and tense shoulders? Admittedly, the rooms were great: only six beds per batch and a huge common area for four rooms with full kitchen (in addition to a major/main kitchen elsewhere). I taught some hostel-stayer from MARYLAND! to juggle a bit to impress our new irish friends. Overall, a tubular scenic and wind-down sort-of day. Here’s a tip: never say ‘happy anzac day’ and always, always, stick your germans on hostel employees who can’t get ahold of christchurch hot tub mechanics.
