Forehands in the rain

Posted on April 24, 2005
Playing ultimate in the rain is always hot–throwing forehands in the rain is always not. Seriously–don’t tell anyone–but my long huck turns to crap in the rain…i lose all control and revert to mainly backhands. I mentioned this to fellow ultimate players a lot in the hopes of finding a solution or at least solace in the fact that it’s not just me. Friends have used baseball gloves, regular mittons, i used to use a fleece glove on my non-throwing hand–none were particularly effective. Paul, a Dunedin-player who’s been to worlds a few times and was part of the only NZ team to win the NZ Open when an Ozzie team came (SPY), says just to attach a bit of athletic tape along the tips of the middle finger. Gazza, however, recommends a Dunedin-based company specializing in rugby gloves: Shock Top Mitts. Find them here for 47 buckaroos, not cheap, but if Gazza swears by them… they’d probably be a good bet.
